Throughout history artists have used pseudonyms for creating work that differs from their usual output. Nelda, artist Lanie Gannon’s alter ego, didn’t just appear and she wasn’t born. She grew like a flower. Nelda embodies a way of creating art, and a kind of art, that is a departure from the work of her creator Lanie Gannon. Using needle and thread, scissors, paper and glue, Nelda’s materials are basic and rudimentary. Her work is spontaneous and less informed by “high” art expectations. This is Nelda’s body of work, though Lanie Gannon has been making her sculptural works for many years.
