Ruby’s father decided to hire an old “colored lady” who lived down the road, to care for the kids. They had all come down with the flu. That old colored woman told Ruby’s Daddy to pick up some fat-meat after he got off work and bring it home. She had her own remedy to cure the flu in their chests before it became pneumonia.
